Protecting your family and the ones that are most important to you is instinctively the top priority for most people. There is no other insurance product that can give you assurance that you've put your family in the best position possible given your untimely death.
Too often, we see tragedy strike and watch a family struggle with the burden of not only losing a loved one, but also the financial difficulty that this can present.
Life insurance comes in 2 basic types: Term and Permanent. Term life insurance is just that: provides coverage for a set term. For example, a typical term policy would be $500,000 death benefit with 20 year level term. In this example, you'd have $500,000 of coverage and a premium that would remain level for 20 years.
When electing a permanent or whole life policy, you will have very little to no variables and your rate will stay fixed as will the death benefit for the entirety of the policy (which would typically be until your death). Depending on your age and your current health, there are different types of permanent life insurance policies that would fit your needs. For example, if you were looking for a smaller death benefit that was more suited for "final expenses," you would be looking at "final expense whole life" type policy. However, if you wanted a larger death benefit and you were in decent health, you would be looking at a "universal" life insurance policy.
The point is, there several options when choosing a life insurance policy, and to know which policy is best for you, requires some understanding of your situation and what you need the life insurance for. For younger individuals who may have some debt or financial obligations, that would be difficult to pay in the case of your untimely death, term life insurance would be the best way to insure yourself as the rates are very low for large death benefit amounts.
